Success stories are always our favorite stories here at Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers. Here, our client Amanda shares an amazing story of her Diabetic Alert Dog in action!
Najiyah the Sugar Sniffer
Dear SDWR, So proud of our SDWR Diabetic Alert Dog Najiyah! His name means “to keep one safe”. He keeps both of my children who suffer from Type 1 Diabetes safe at all times. Like tonight…We were in my room with the door closed across the house watching a movie. I hear Najiyah going crazy and barking (which is not normal). I ask my daughter Mimi to free him. As I open the door, he comes bolting in. He immediately lets me know Brennan (my son) is high and Jordan (my daughter) is low. I check, and realized he is in fact correct. Brennan is high and Jordan is dropping fast and has active insulin in her pump. With her sensitivity factor it would have left her blood sugar around 30!!!!! We wouldn’t have checked again for another hour and a half if Najiyah hadn’t alerted us. That kind of number is extremely dangerous. Some days you can calculate everything perfectly, but Diabetes doesn’t fight fair. Good high and low checks by our Diabetic alert dog! Ice cream for her and a shot for him and treats for our furry sugar sniffer. Thank you Warren Retrievers for a sense of comfort.
